Next morning Collection Technician #1999 decided she needed to find a resting station of her own. Turned out benches were really uncomfortable to sleep in.
After checking the information she got from the human the night before she discovered these people had a place called the internet which contained all the data about humans and the Simearth one could possibly need. To access this magical and mystic place she needed a device called a computer, which according to the human specimen’s brain she could find at the local library.
Collection Technician #1999 was really excited to find out what a library was!
Collection Technician #1999 spent the rest of her morning absorbing all the data she could find in a place called Simpedia. It was one of the most incredible places she ever knew! She couldn’t believe humans put all this useful information in a public device instead of their own brains!
After reading each and every article available in the Simpedia she was pretty sure she had a good idea of how humans, their history and society worked. They were highly underdeveloped but they also were fascinating creatures.
Unfortunately she also learnt humans had a thing called money that they asked for in exchange of goods, resting stations included… and that to get money she needed a job.
Collection Technician #1999 discovered there was a science laboratory right in that town - StrangerVille, it was called -, and she couldn’t believe her luck. Keeping in mind what she read, working on the scientist career would be the best match for her and her training. But surprisingly she couldn’t find much information about this laboratory in the Simpedia… so she searched for the source of the information, aka a human.
"Good morning, fellow human being!" Collection Technician #1999 said chirpily "Do you happen to know if the laboratory based in this town is hiring new employees? I can’t find information about it on Simpedia."
"Hello… weird, yet beautiful stranger" The human greeted her back "Funny that you ask that. The lab has been closed for a couple of weeks now so I don’t think they are hiring. You could always try a job app tho"
"Oh! I read about those! Can you teach me how to use one, fellow human being?"
The human looked at her with a suspicious expression and for a heartbeat Collection Technician #1999 though he had discovered her.
"Are you one of those hipster girls that don’t use technology…?" He started but then he waved his hand as if shooing the question away "You know what… ok, I’ll help you (because you are pretty and it’s not often that girls talk to me), but in exchange you have to listen to my theory on why the laboratory closed. And by the way… My name is Erwin, what’s yours?"
" I’ll gladly listen, fello… Erwin. My name is Collection Technician…" She stopped herself when Erwin gave her a strange look again. Right! Humans weren’t named after their job and their serial number… She needed to come up with a proper human name! "Cassiopeia. My name is Cassiopeia Polaris."
After listening to Erwin’s theories (which Collection Tech-... Cassiopeia found actually really interesting) and finding a job as a lab technician in the same company that ran the lab in this town, FutureSim Labs, she decided it was time to find a home.
She walked around for most of the day until she finally found a place. The rests of a wrecked plane on the skirts of the town. It seemed good enough, no aliens allowed sign and all.
"Sixamnians don’t even look like that… so I guess it’s ok… right?"
It was also the first time Cassiopeia experienced rain, since The Mighty Devs didn’t think weather was necessary in Sixam!
Turns out rain is really fun to play with, but also cold and tiring.
Cassiopeia visited the library again the next morning since her first shift didn’t start until the next day. When she was leaving a man in a cowboy hat stopped her in the foyer.
"Excuse me young lady. I’m Ted Roswell, the mayor of this town"
The mayor! She learnt yesterday mayors were the leaders of some human groups, so she was really excited about meeting him.
"Oh, nice to meet you, fellow human! I’m Cassiopeia Polaris"
"As I thought… you are the person that was asking too many questions yesterday. Did you come back here to try and pry more information?" Cassiopeia could register notes of threat in the man’s voice. The sudden change in Roswell’s behavior confused her. Was it forbiden to use Simpedia?
"I thought that information was public."
"I don’t know what shenanigans you have in this town, but you should mind your own business and leave. You are not welcomed here."
Before Cassiopeia could ask any further the man turned around and left the building. She stayed there, wondering what was wrong with that human.
After that unfortunate encounter Cassiopeia came back to Erwin’s shop, feeling rather upset.
"Human! Why didn’t you tell me looking at information in Simpedia was forbiden?" She demanded to know.
"??? Wait, what."
"I bumped into Mr. Mayor and he was really upset because I was looking for information yesterday!"
"Oh… now I get it" Erwin nodded with a knowing smile "Townsfolk are a little… suspicious about anyone looking for information right now. So if you need to know anything better ask me directly, ok?"
The next morning while Cassiopeia was out for a jog - because this human case was weak, and needed a lot of training - she started to notice some weird humans around.
She knew they were strange thanks to how the other humans behaved: they looked terrified whenever they saw them. They tried to avoid them and in whispers they called them the possessed.
But after what she experienced the day before with Mr. Mayor, Cassiopeia decided it was none of her business.
She just wanted to go back home.
Me gusta tanto como escribes. Erwin era un sim un poco nulo para mí, pero me está gustando mucho en esta historia
